Healthy Food For Kids

Eating healthy food for kids is more important now than ever because of the growing obesity crisis that the US is facing. A major part of that crisis is poor nutrition and children who are overweight or obese are more likely to develop serious health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer in their adult lives. So a good start for children's nutrition is to provide them with a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products and lean meats. Your child's nutritional needs may not be identical to your own, so take a few moments to consider what your child needs from you and what you can give them. A key to developing a healthy eating plan is not only avoiding junk food during mealtimes but also making healthy eating a part of all of your meals.

Tip: Try to rotate out common unhealthy foods in favor of healthier ones, giving the kids a variety.

For example, you can swap out your child's fries for a baked potato (which is much lower in fat) and serve a grilled chicken breast instead of fried. Another way to provide your kids with a wide range of nutritious foods is to make snacks a part of your child's daily routine. You might consider using blended food, which is nutritious and tasty but make a relatively small amount of food. For example, a blend of fresh fruits and vegetables would make a healthy snack. If you decide to use blended foods, remember to vary the fruits and vegetables to make them interesting and appealing to kids.
